CONTRIBUTORS 34 CULTURED New York-based photographer MATTHU PLACEK has contributed to Visionaire, Vogue, POP and The Last Magazine, among others. He's expanded his photography into motion picture, where he has begun to examine the possibilities of portraiture through film. His subjects include Vanessa Beecroft, Marina Abramovic, Jonah Bokaer, Terence Koh, Yoko Ono, Dana Schutz and Cindy Sherman. His works and collaborative works have been exhibited at the MoMA, The Kitchen, "New Frontier" at the Sundance Film Festival, Art Basel Miami Beach, Deitch Projects and Mary Boone Gallery. "I would like to have met On Kawara. His relationship to time was similar to my own and how I use it in my work. I would have loved to have talked with him." SOLEDAD PICON was born and raised in Patagonia, Argentina. An architect with a master's in classical building restoration, Picon moved to Miami in 1999 and has since been involved with many organizations, working as a philanthropist and serving on several boards of directors, including MOCA North Miami and the Bass Museum of Art. She also writes for Forbes México. "The works of Oscar Niemeyer and Paulo Mendes da Rocha have always moved me; I would love to have even a small glimpse into the intimacy of that wonderful generation. And of this generation, I think Marcio Kogan is a great successor who has managed to continue their legacy. His works re-create and reinterpret the timeless quality of the best of classic Modernity, without losing the tropical color." "Which artist, architect or designer would you most like to meet?" STEVEN VOLPE is a Paris-trained designer based in San Francisco, where he is the principal of his eponymous design studio and founder of the art and design gallery, Hedge. With over 20 years of successful projects in San Francisco, Paris and New York, Volpe now lends his expertise as Cultured's new contributing editor. "Edwin Lutyens, due to the fact that he was a Modernist in his time of Classical tradition." TANIA COMPTON, a new Cultured contributor, is a British writer and garden designer working in the U.K. and France. She previously worked in the Paris bureaus of Women's Wear Daily and W and as gardens editor for House & Garden U.K. Compton co-wrote "Dream Gardens: 100 Inspirational Gardens" (Merrell, 2007) and is currently compiling "The Private Gardens of England" (Little Brown, 2015). Compton and her husband, a botanist, live in Wiltshire, England. "Leon Battista Alberti; every time I have stared up at the facade of Santa Maria Novella in Florence since I was 17, I fall just a bit more seriously in love with that man's mind."
