(Pictured above left.) The ceme- tery association has records mention- ing this fence being in place as far back as 1923. One local fence company said "Tear it down and buy a new one." But they asked me if it could be salvaged. And it could! The posts are 2½" x 3" I beams set in concrete, and many were rusted off at ground level. To refurbish the fence we drove a pipe welded to 4" of 8"x8" angle iron on each side of the old footing about 8" to 10" from the center of the post. (See photos above left.)
