Waukesha celebrates Oktoberfest Sept. 23-24 Waukesha County Expo Center plays host to the 2nd annual Waukesha Oktoberfest Sept. 23-24, a celebration of authentic German cuisine, music, dance, games and (of course) beer. Hours are 5 p.m.- midnight Friday and noon-midnight Saturday. The festival kicks off with German Hofbrau beer and a German fish fry. Favorite dishes available throughout the weekend include bratwurst, pork strudel, Rueben rolls and soft Bavarian pretzels. Cruise aboard the IRQOUOIS & VOYAGEUR, Milwaukee's only excursion vessels licensed to sail on the Milwaukee River, Harbor, AND Lake Michigan! Both days, volunteer contestants can compete in the Bavarian sport Masskrugstemmen, a competitive sport to test who can hold a full stein out the longest. Friday evening, the five-member band Austrian Express entertains. Saturday brings Sheepshead tournaments throughout the afternoon. Blaskapelle Milwaukee, one of the city's newest and youngest German performing groups, brings 18 musicians to the stage Saturday night.
