On December 1, photographer and
filmmaker Francesco Carrozzini
debuts "A Man's Story," a series
of short films and photographs
commissioned by Salvatore
Ferragamo under the brand's
creative director, Massimiliano
Giornetti. The project stars seven
men who, according to Carrozzini,
"are not afraid to make their own
rules, even when it's meant
potential failure."
One of the featured rule-
breakers, Ryan McGinley, shares
how he developed his craft,
creating the emotionally arresting
images of naked youth for which
he's known: "I think for the first
five years of making photographs,
it was all documentary. Basically,
it was about me being a fly on the
wall waiting for things to happen. I
wasn't really making photographs;
I was taking photographs. But
then I got impatient, and I didn't
want to wait anymore. I realized
that I loved the human body, that
when people took their clothes off,
they had my full attention. I love
studying the body and I love
movement—like when something's
happening and it feels exciting
and it feels like a moment."
