CON-WAY DRIVER NAMED DRIVER OF THE YEAR Con-way driver Kurt Coulson was named 2011 Driver of the Year by the Washington Trucking Associ- ation. The asso- ciation made the announcement at its annual Day With the Winners ceremony in Auburn, Wash. Coulson has been driving for Con-way since 1998. Kurt Coulson CENTRAL FREIGHT FOUNDER INDUCTED INTO HALL OF HONOR William Woody Callan, Cen- tral Freight Lines founder, was inducted as the 33rd member into the Texas Transportation Hall of Honor. Central Freight Lines this year received the first-place safety award in the LTL/P&D division from the Texas Motor Transporta- tion Association, achieving the highest safety standards in the state of Texas. Callan founded the company in 1925 with a Model-T truck and built it into the largest intrastate, regular-route common carrier in the nation, employing more than 4,500 people and serv- ing 1,200 Texas cities and towns. He retired as president of the company in 1952, served as chair- man of the board and was active in transportation and community affairs until his death in 1987. OLD DOMINION INCREASES BASE RATES Old Dominion Freight Line has increased its base rates, which will affect the ODFL 559/555 and the 505 Canadian tariffs.
