live in good health The Great Bottle Debate Feeling overwhelmed by the array of reusable hydra- tion options? Put a lid on all the questions by reaching for two reliable standbys: glass and stainless steel By Kelsey Bewick Go for Glass Pros: Glass bottles, made sans chemical components like certain plastics, present no risk of harmful chemicals or unwanted tastes seeping into your drinks. The bottles are also dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. Cons: In a word: breakable. (Though most bottles come complete with a protective and washable cover to prevent breakage.) Glass bottles also tend to be heavier to transport. Great for: Those who want a reusable beverage container but aren't frequently dashing to and fro. A glass bottle is especially ideal for the workplace! Try: The 16-oz. reusable glass bottle with silicone sleeve by Lifefactory, $20. (far left) Sip from Stainless Pros: Ultra-durable stainless steel is unlike other metals or plastics in that it doesn't require a plastic liner, eliminating the possibility of controversial chemicals such as BPA leaching into your drinks. Stainless steel also promises to keep drinks cooler longer. Cons: Generally not dishwasher safe and the bottles may dent if dropped. Some sippers claim they have a metallic taste or look too sporty. Great for: The on-the-go individual. Most brands have lids that allow you to clip onto bike bags, purses, strollers, you name it! Try: The 20-oz. "Seriously Safe" flip-and-sip stainless steel bottle by Enviro Products, $12.
