Advanced searches can be performed by location,
trail use, length or distance from a location. If a search returns any hits, a record set is displayed, including the approximate distance in miles from the geocoded location. When users click on a hit of the returned results,
an AJAX request is issued to the server along with the feature's unique ID to request the necessary informa- tion about the clicked feature, displaying the detailed information in a new dialog (see Figure 4). "The Trails Co-op is a thorough catalog of U.S. trails
that's accessible to new users, providing GPX down- loads and printable maps that include topography, profiles and aerial imagery," notes Marc Fairbanks, Mountain Bike Guidebook author and GIS consultant, David Evans and Associates.
