Glencoe, Illinois Quick Facts Glencoe population: ....................................8723 Street Tree population: .................................8870 2011 UF Budget: ...............................$1,006,175. I am proud of our ever-increasing street tree diversity; our best performers are maples, American linden, and DED-resistant elm varieties. We have maintained our Tree City USA status since 1984, and we became SMA Accredited in 2009. We currently have a GIS system principally for topo- graphic features and sewer and water utilities. We are working to add parkway tree data using our regu- larly-updated parkway tree inventory, and we are col- laborating with the Glencoe Park District to inventory all park trees for inclusion in our GIS system. This Frank Lloyd Wright-designed bridge in Glencoe crosses a deep wooded ravine. We plant approximately 200 parkway trees each year with a minimum diameter of 3 inches (76 mm). We competitively bid this planting to one outside con- tractor to provide and plant all 23 types of trees on our planting list. Our low bid has been from Chicago area nurseries.
