Horticulture Professor Douglas Airhart chairs the SMA Arborist Exchange Committee. Climber Tim Nowak is a graduate of Milwaukee's Urban Forestry Training program. We beat our heads against walls and posts trying to get sound arboricultural management practices recognized and adopted by our cities. The conference provides new informa- tion, different approaches to take, and just plain burn-out relief by talking to individuals who know and care about the same problems you do. This year we also overlapped Oktoberfest, with good brats and brews. The Milwaukee urban forestry tour was fantastic; we saw good nursery stock and top-of-the-line greenhouse production facilities. Plan now to bring more items to next year's Silent Auction to support the Arborist Exchange Program. —Douglas Airhart, Professor of Horticulture in the School of Agriculture at Tennessee Tech University, Cookeville, and SMA Arborist Exchange Committee Chair Todd Haefke of Midwest Arborist Supplies. 20 One of Milwaukee's high-drama but low-maintenance signature beds.
