Dannell Vance is an urban forestry inspector with the City of Milwaukee. The wide variety of presentations is what I enjoyed most about the conference. It was very exciting to learn about the many innovative solutions that urban foresters and research- ers are developing. I think the presentation that I found the most useful and enlight- ening in regards to my current position was "Getting Value from Urban Wood." I oversee the tree maintenance on approximately 3,000 City of Milwaukee-owned vacant lots. Developing some of the ideas that Jessica Simons presented for utilizing the wood that is removed from our lots would be a great opportunity to diversify our contributions and better serve the community. And maybe eventually help the program become self-supporting. I also really enjoyed "Urban Trees for a New Century" by Nancy Buley from J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. I love learning about new beautiful, diverse, and adaptable tree introductions. The historical context of the presentation was also great." —Dannell Vance, Urban Forestry Inspector, City of Milwaukee Jim Kringer is Milwaukee's longtime forestry construction supervisor.
