I EXHIBITED AN animatronic moving sculpture by Barry McGee, a "tagger" that holds a spray can and moves its arm back and forth. I would love to take this little guy home and have it tag my apartment. I would invite Barry over to do a giant fill-in across the wall and hang the tagger at the end of it. KATHY GRAYSON Wunderkind Kathy Grayson was the director of Deitch Projects before the storied gallery space closed in 2010. She was hired as a receptionist, but during her first year, she organized a group show outside of the gallery in Brooklyn that caught the attention of The New York Times art critic Roberta Smith. Owner Jeffrey Deitch noticed Grayson's unerring eye for spotting emerging talent and made her a more integral part of the team. She introduced new artists such as Dash Snow and Terence Koh into the mix, cementing Deitch Projects as one of the most innovative spaces in Downtown New York. After the gallery closed, Grayson launched her own space, The Hole, on the Bowery. It is known for its distinct vision cast with a downtown sensibility, its support of up-and-coming talent and its legendary opening parties. Grayson's irreverent and undeniably cool take on art has made The Hole a perennial favorite amo ng the art crowd. In the upcoming months, The Hole will launch a group show featuring contemporary Puerto Rican artists, as well as Evan Robarts' first solo show with the gallery. COURTESY HONOR FRASER GALLERY LA (CROW); CANADA GALLERY NYC (BERNHARDT); THE HOLE NYC (MCGEE); COURTESY THE ARTIST AND JUSTIN WALDRON (KAWAI); DAVID BRANDON GEETING (ROBARTS) Gabriel Pionkowski's Untitled, 2011 IN MARCH, WE HAVE A SOLO BOOTH at Volta NY on Pier 90 with Gabriel Pionkowski, this really sought-after young artist who de-threads, paints, and then reweaves canvas. It's a real showstopper. 128 CULTURED I WOULD WANT TO TAKE home a giant Katherine Bernhardt sloppy-lady painting; she doesn't make them anymore, but they are a great series. MY BUSINESS IS ABOUT EMERGING ART and always scoping out new talent as it pops up; these are at the top of my list of who I want to see more from: Jeanette Hayes, Trudy Benson, Evan Robarts, Austin Lee, Gabriel Pionkowski, Jaimie Warren, Michael Dotson, Rosson Crow, Misaki Kawai and Eric Yahnker. Misaki Kawai with her large combable sculpture, Arty, at the Watermill Center in New York, 2012. Evan Robarts' Safety Blue Rosson Crow's Haring with Memphis, 2014
