Sgt. Heacock now is working to bring the Litchfield, Minn., American Legion and VFW onboard in their efforts to ensure every deploying soldier has access to a GPS handheld device. "Operation Waypoint provides an extra tool to aid the safety of soldiers," notes Sgt. Heacock. "And that's what it's all about, bringing our men and women home safely. I deployed with the Minnesota National Guard, and anything we didn't have, our community made sure we had it. As citizens, Operation Waypoint is a great opportunity to help ensure we are doing all we can to support our troops." Operation Waypoint seeks to grow nationally by work- ing with other Legion Posts and organizations. The orga- nization recently redesigned the Operation Waypoint Web site to build awareness for the organization's work, make it easier for visitors to donate and encourage other organizations to become partners in the project to provide GPS devices for soldiers in their own communi- ties. It continues to hold local fundraisers and work with veterans to get the word out about the program.
