U.S. shipments of central air condi- tioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 517,864 units in August 2011, up 18 per- cent from 439,551 units shipped in August 2010. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 24 percent, to 371,157 units, up from 300,046 units shipped in August 2010. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 5 percent, to 146,707 units, up from 139,505 units shipped in August 2010. Year-to-date combined shipments of residential central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 13 per- cent, to 4,417,192 units, up from 3,899,259 units shipped in August 2010. Year-to- date shipments of central air conditioners increased 17 percent, to 3,052,281 units, up from 2,618,762 units shipped during the same period in 2010. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 7 percent, to 1,364,911 units, up from 1,280,497 units shipped during the same period in 2010. HINO TRUCKS SHOWCASES ITS B20-APPROVED DIESEL-ELECTRIC HYBRID TRUCKS AT HTUF The National Biodiesel Board partnered with Hino Trucks to showcase Hino's new line of biodiesel-capable trucks at the Hybrid, Electric, at the recent High Efficiency Truck Users Forum Conference in Baltimore. The 2012 Hino 195h diesel-electric hybrid cab over truck displayed at the HTUF Expo showed off its capabilities running on a 20 percent biodiesel blend (B20) and hybrid electric power during the HTUF Ride-and-Drive event on October 13th. The Hino 195h joined a parade of more than 30 high effi- ciency trucks for a display of technical competence at the 11th annual HTUF Ride-and-Drive at the Westport Parking Lot in Baltimore. Hino Trucks , a Toyota Group Company, announced its full approval for use of B20 biodiesel blends in its new hybrid-electric truck as well as its complete product line of class 4 and 5 cab over, and class 6 and 7 conventional trucks in July 2011. Hino Trucks is the world's third largest manufacturer of light and medium duty trucks, and now the fastest growing truck manufac- turer in the U.S. Hino's B20 approval statement joins those of competitors Isuzu Commercial Trucks, Ford Motor Company, International / Navistar, Cummins engines and others.
