erative where the fair trade premiums paid for a dining room, a health clinic
and improved toilet facilities. The dining room, however, was only for factory
workers, not those who work in the fields. The toilets were only for managers
and the clinic could only be used for free by the permanent factory workers,
not temporary or migrant workers.
The study concluded that they were "unable to find any evidence that
Fairtrade has made a positive difference to the wages and working conditions of
those employed in the production of the commodities produced for Fairtrade
Certified export in the areas where the research has been conducted…"

Organizations) – A non-profit collective of member
labeling organizations and producers from across the
globe. The mark for this organization is FAIRTRADE.

member of Fairtrade International. www.fairtradeam-
erica.org. The UK member organization, the Fair Trade
Foundation www.fairtrade.org.uk and Africa member,

Fair Trade USA (formerly TransFair USA) – In
2011, this organization split from Fairtrade Interna-
tional, establishing itself as a competitor. The California
based certifier then launched a new initiative, "Fair
Trade for All" to expand the range of organizations
that can become certified, including larger plantations.

Oxfam International – Oxfam is an international
organization dedicated to fighting poverty. Oxfam has
been a partner with Fairtrade International on many

Ethical Tea Partnership – Founded in 1997, the
partnership now has 30 members across the globe,
seeking to improve the tea supply chain and offer sup-
port to producers and long-term sustainability initiatives.
