Everyone likes a "top 10" list, or at least that's what my editor says. These are the first 10 golf courses that came into the mind of a guy who plays golf every day, weather permitting, except Saturdays and Sundays. There are other great courses in Wisconsin, some better than these 10 early-season gems selected for a variety of rea- sons and listed in alphabetical order. Maybe we'll provide another "top" 10 next month! 1 Blackstone Creek Chuckle if you like, but terrific layout and pretty good condi- tions; Little bit of everything that tests everything; play it every day and still have money left for food and clothes. blackstonecreekgc.com 2 Brown Deer Great traditional parkland course and nice value, espe- cially for Milwaukee County residents or cardholders; #18; Tiger Woods turned pro here. milwaukeecountygolfcourses. com/brown_details/ 3 The Bull at Pinehurst Farms Only Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Wisconsin; Bring your balls if you know what I mean; Toughest on this list. golfthebull.com 4 Erin Hills Host for 2017 US Open; It's near Washington County Golf Course and Hartford Golf Club; Get away from everything except flora and fauna; Even scratch player should plan on 5+ hour round, walking only. erinhills.com 5 Ives Grove Three solid links-type nines (Red & White are my favorites); Nice people; Fun to play; 20 miles south of Milwaukee, a four iron from the freeway. ivesgrovegl.com 6 Johnson Park Feels like a Tillinghast; Tough challenge even for the best. racinegolfonline.com/john- son_park/ 7 Nagawaukee Director of Golf Tom Halla, pro shop folks Yvonne and Jasmine; Lawrence Packard layout; fine value. golfwaukeshacounty.com 8 The Straits Great place if you have $500 to blow on one round; Every current PGA Pro Superstar will be here for 2015 PGA Championship Aug. 10-16. americanclubresort.com 9 Washington County Golf Course Clubhouse folks and a maintenance crew that takes real pride in what it does; My favorite (at least 40 rounds an- nually); For one round at The Straits, I can play 20 times at this meticulously maintained Arthur Hills design; Great prac- tice area. golfwcgc.com q Whispering Springs #s 9 & 18 (the other 16 aren't bad either); Wisconsin's hidden gem. whisperingspringsgolf.com keymilwaukee.com 39 10 courses GOLF try these By JERRY SLASKE KEY Milwaukee Golf Editor
