Since 2005, CITGO has invested more than $400 million in energy assistance to those in need ('05-'11). Last year alone, more than $60 million in heating oil was donated to low-income families and indi- viduals. With higher costs for heating oil and reduced government funding for energy assistance programs, the need this year is greater than ever. CITGO partners with Citizens Energy Corporation, a nonprofit created in 1979 by former U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, to implement the program. Citizens Energy, which has used successful ventures in the energy and health care industries to finance charitable programs in the U.S. and abroad, has provided energy assistance to families in need for over 30 years. AHRI RELEASES SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER 2011 U.S. HEATING EQUIPMENT SHIPMENT DATA The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is the trade association representing manufacturers of air conditioning, heating, and commercial refrigeration equipment. AHRI provides regular reports on the sales of a variety of equipment. Offered below is the data for September and October 2011. Residential Storage Water Heaters— U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for September 2011 increased 28 percent, to 356,694 units, up from 278,165 units shipped in September 2010. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 17 percent in September 2011, to 325,169 units, up from 276,952 units shipped in September 2010. U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for October 2011 increased 11 percent, to 296,916 units, up from 268,723 units shipped in October 2010. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 8 percent in October 2011, to 292,981 units, up from 272,170 units shipped in October 2010. For the year-to-date, U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters decreased 0.5 percent, to 3,256,173 units, compared to 3,272,572 units shipped during the same period in 2010. Residential electric storage water heater shipments decreased 2 percent year-to-date, to 3,080,205 units, compared to 3,126,597 units shipped during the same period in 2010. Commercial Storage Water Heaters— Commercial gas storage water heater shipments increased 11 percent in September 2011, to 6,268 units, up from 5,658 units shipped in September 2010. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 2 percent in September 2011, to 5,102 units, up from 5,021 units shipped in September 2010. Commercial gas storage water heater shipments increased 9 percent in October 2011, to 5,809 units, up from 5,333 units shipped in October 2010. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 14 percent in October 2011, to 4,955 units, up from 4,366 units shipped in October 2010. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of com- mercial gas storage water heaters increased 2 percent, to 66,882 units, compared with 65,824 units shipped during the same period in 2010. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 2 percent to 50,353 units, up from 49,222 units shipped during the same period in 2010.
