"Field Projects in Chelsea is another space giving emerging artists and independent curators wonderful exposure." "Uta Barth's photos of light have been pinned up on my studio walls since grad school. Most recently, I've been looking a lot at Zarina Hashmi and Mary Heilmann's abstractions." "I'm looking really forward to my solo show at Turn Gallery in September. The paintings—a series of garden paradieses—reconnected me to the country my family was barred from." "Every year I look forward to Frieze. It's consistently a really tight and well-curated fair, with some of my favorite galleries from around the world. The energy inside that big white tent on Randall's Island is electric, and I always leave with a long list of new artists to look up and a million ideas for new paintings to make." CULTURED 197 KIMIA KLINE Iranian-American artist Kimia Kline helms her own studio practice while curating the permanent art collection at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Since taking on the role of curator at the hotel in 2012, Kline has added the work of local emerging and mid-career artists in the guest rooms, as well as curating installations commissioned by the hotel for its public areas. The Nashville-born painter spent eight months in an artist residency in South India in 2011, and was selected as one of Makehouse Residency's sponsored artists for the 2014-15 season. In September, Turn Gallery in New York presents a solo show of her new work, which references her family's experience fleeing Iran when she was a child. "I love Exhibition A and the artists they work with. Their Instagram account is a great place to get the latest scoop on new talent."
