25 CULTURED 81 23 24 NO SUNSCREEN REQUIRED Pioneering Brooklyn-based design collaborative Snarkitecture brings its signature sense of subversive whimsy to—of all places—the Great Hall of the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. Done in the studio's white-washed style, the site-specific installation will mimic an ocean across 10,000 square feet, using nearly 1 million recyclable translucent plastic balls. Beach chairs and umbrellas complete the seaside experience, which opens July 4. nbm.org BROOKLYN-BASED ARTIST JOSH KLINE may only be 35, but he's already been making waves on the art circuit. His installation Freedom was included in the 2015 Triennial at the New Museum this spring, and he is an emerging commodity on the strong roster of noted gallery 47 Canal. One need only read his conversation with artist Ryan Trecartin (included in the Triennial catalogue) to realize that Kline's vision is only just beginning to be seen; it references the failure of America's two-party system, the Industrial Revolution and Teletubbies in just a single conversation. Look out for this one. 47canal.us Since 1979, Nilufar founder Nina Yashar has been commissioning the likes of Giò Ponti, Gaetano Pesce and Martino Gamper—long before they were household names. This April, Yashar delighted all by opening Nilufar Depot, a museum-like storage warehouse, loaded with household-names-in-the-making. nilufar.com Josh Kline's installation at the 2015 New Museum Triennial PHOTO BY JOERG LOHSE, COURTESY OF 47 CANAL, NEW YORK; NILUFAR DEPOT; SNARKITECTURE
