"As such, the hospital did not want to add a chain link fence, but rather a more attractive option. The basic design still needed to include a min- tall vertical fence that re- back into the garage." After several meetings at the ga- rage, EF&G presented the option to install an ornamental steel picket fence. Hospital staff was also con- cerned about the fence looking like an extension of the building façade, which included multiple different col- ors and elevations. EF&G reached out to Iron World Manufacturing to dis- cuss various custom options regarding heights and colors. A formal propos- al was sent to the hospital, and it was approved. Dineen said the fi rst stage of the installation began in late De- cember 2014. EF&G had nearly 400 custom base plates made by a local " square " square " galvanized posts. Installers spent sev- eral weeks laying out and mocking up each individual post/plate assembly, which in turn had to be coded by color The design included both side-mounted and surface-mount- ed plates, depending on the garage Eagle Fence & Guardrail completes a sky high fence job continued on page 17 Above left, due to the newness of the structure and its spectacular view of the downtown Hartford, Conn. skyline, Hartford Hospital staff had a vision of possibly using the parking garage rooftop for future special events and fundraisers, and therefore wanted a more attractive setting than provid- ed by the chain link enclosures used at the other garages. At left, local contractor Northeast Riggers, Inc. provided crane and rigging services to place the materials on top of the tall garage. Below left, ornamen- tal steel panels had to be fabricated in multiple heights in order to allow the constant level fence top as or- dered by the customer. The panels and posts also required custom col- or coating in order to blend in like an extension of the building façade. The basic design called for a minimum in-turn at the top.
