Raster elevation products for the new model were produced using several aggregation methods: minimum elevation, maximum elevation, mean eleva- tion, median elevation, standard deviation of eleva- tion, systematic subsample and breakline emphasis. GMTED2010 also comes with a wealth of metadata for identifying the source and attributes of the input elevation data behind the output products. USGS is making the GMTED2010 data prod- ucts available to the public with no redistribution restrictions. The data can be found online at eros. usgs.gov/#Find_Data/Products_and_Data_Available/ GMTED2010. The left half of an image was created using the 15-year-old GTOPO30 elevation data model that's being supplanted by the new GMTED2010 model (right half), which uses data from sources such as the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission. Autodesk Acquisition Sends Company Deeper into Cloud Computing Autodesk Inc. is acquiring Horizontal Systems, which sells building information modeling (BIM) collaboration systems for the architectural, engineering and construc- tion industries. The companies didn't disclose terms of the transaction, which is expected to be finalized by the end of January 2012. The acquisition should give Autodesk a boost in the realm of "cloud computing," in which software applica- tions are delivered as a service over a network such as the Internet, rather than as a software product installed directly on a user's machine. The acquisition adds to Autodesk's stable of products, including Horizontal's Glue platform for BIM. The platform supports multidiscipline model collaboration and intel- ligent object data exchange for building and infrastructure industries. Specifically, Autodesk intends to integrate Horizontal Systems solutions into its Autodesk 360 for BIM solution. "Horizontal Systems technology will help accelerate our Autodesk 360 for BIM capabilities by allowing multi-discipline teams to more easily communicate and synchronize information—helping reduce waste and errors during the design and construction of AEC projects and leading to faster, more-efficient project delivery," said Jim Lynch, vice president for architecture, engineering and construction solutions at Autodesk. Autodesk Inc. is acquiring Horizontal Systems, which makes the Glue platform that integrates BIM data from multiple sources into one interface. Imagery/LIDAR Special Issue JANUAR Y 2O12 / WWW .
