66 in June and I'm still high energy. So this is great, it's something different." The exploration and hiring process is already rolling. And will kick off in earnest in August. "We're having a summer forum in August. We will have four topics at that forum and one of them will be to explore the direction of the association: where do you want to go. So that will determine what kind of individual is going to be hired," said Garber. "It has to be somebody that can work with all the organizations, have an understanding of all the organizations and also understand the technical side. I don't mean that they have to go out in the field and be able to do everything, but they have to be tolerant and understanding of that. They also have to have very, very good administrative skills. So that's a challenge." After the forum dictates what kind of person OESP will be look- ing for, the next step will begin in December. "In the December timeframe, we'll put out the job description and make a call or applications. Our committee is comprised of past presidents of the association and myself because it's important to me that I'm turning something over to a person that I have at least seen on paper and think will be a good steward of the organization," said Garber. "Then around March first, they'll be on board." As for what's next for Garber, well, that's still up in the air. "I certainly doubt I'll want to sit on a rocking chair," said Garber. "But because education means so much to me, there are a few things out there that I think about." She said she still has a lot of thinking to do and is open to new ideas. "Should I push on a state level for licensing? I feel that's important. I'd like to stay in energy, but there are some things I'd like to sit back and think about and maybe something will show up at my door," said Garber, adding that a little more freedom is first and foremost. "This gives me a chance to continue doing things I like and enjoy the opportunity with grandkids whenever I want and not have to worry about a schedule." The Dave Nelsen Scholarship Golf Tournament was held at Deer Valley Golf Course in Hummelstown, PA. The Dave Nelsen Scholarship fund was established in 1999. Since then, over $250,000 in awards has been presented to students interested in pursuing careers in the energy-service industry. The 2015 Dave Nelsen Scholarship recipients are Roger Bruso, Jeffrey Comitz, Thomas Daros, Jr., Erik Graff, Michael Boylston, and Garth Reish. Oil Heat Cares' Care to Ride raised funds for oil-heating equipment replacements for people who are struggling to heat their homes. The following people were recognized for their commitment to Oil Heat Cares: Oil Heat Cares Cup: Judy Garber and Dan Holohan Top Fundraising Team: Team Connecticut Top Fundraiser Motorcycle Division: Ralph Adams Top Fundraiser Bicycle Division: Roger Marran Top Fundraiser Walking Division: Dan and Marianne Holohan The Convention also delivered on OESP's mission of education with a diverse program, including two of NORA's new courses on air flow and hydronics, as well as a full trade show. According to OESP President, Al Breda, "Our name changed a few years ago to reflect an evolution in our industry and our membership. Many conventional fuel oil dealers are adding propane to their offerings, as well as HVAC services and maybe even plumbing, electrical, and so on. We are here to help with the educational classes and certifi- cations that can better prepare the managers and field personnel to handle the new challenges." ON THE SHOW FLOOR There were a number of great new products and devices that are serving a great niche in the industry. Take a look at a select few that were getting good buzz at this year's OESP Convention and Trade show. www.fueloilnews.com | FUEL OIL NEWS | JULY 2015 25 BUSINESS OPERATIONS
