The first step adopted by CTJI in lean management was to require its staff involved in production to firmly keep in mind the ideas of "eliminating waste" and "increasing value". Afterwards, the company managed to divide the launch and implementation of lean management into three phases – intro- duction of lean management, application of lean management, and promotion of lean management. The first phase involves linking the elements of lean management with production behavior by different modules. The second phase, "application of lean management" means lowering the costs and increasing the efficiency of production in line with the theory of lean management. As for the third phase, it includes the complicated work of data collection and statistical analysis of feedback and data. Such work will result in the drawing of suggestions for improvement in a more transparent and effective way, and will build a feedback loop for the produc- tion process. Suggestions that are more compatible with the present work will be used to improve the production process. By doing so, a closed cycle of spiral lean management improvements can be created. Over the last several years, CTJI launched large-scale training programs on lean management across all of its cigarette factories in an effort to comprehensively develop new skills for its staff. Constant scientific and technological innovation The greatest significance of innovation lies in continued in- jection of value into products to satisfy the ever-changing de- mand of consumers, and even to guide the demand of con- sumers, which will in turn contribute to maintaining market share. Created in 1994, Jinsheng is part of an emerging new cigarette brand. Yet, the scientific and technological innova- tion capacity of Jinsheng has always taken the lead in the to- bacco industry of China. Since its inception, Jinsheng has won quite a few prizes for innovation. In 2007, Jinsheng, in its ca- pacity as a key leading cigarette brand, won a Golden Praseo- dymium Prize awarded at the First China Brands Festival and earned the coveted title "most characteristic brand of China's tobacco industry". In 2008, Jinsheng won a prize for innova- tion of brands in China for 30 Years. In 2010, it won a Golden Praseodymium Prize in Overall Standings of Brands in China for 2009-2010, and earned the title of honor as a "brand in- novation in reducing the content of harmful substances with medicinal herbs". When talking about future development of CTJI, Zheng Wei emphasized that the company will attach great importance to maintaining its products, promoting its scientific and technological innovation capacity, and will make Jinsheng into a regional cigarette brand to be reckoned with. "Constant effort yields sure success" is the motto followed by Jinsheng. It is believed that CTJI – which has persistently followed this value proposition – will definitely register long- standing development and progress in its future endeavor for greater successes.
