48 • SEPTEMBER 2015 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Financial formalities frustrate fencer continued from page 46 My helper wasn't showing any signs of sweat which set me to won- dering about you know what! Nah, I couldn't have pushed 7/8ths up there myself. Yet, he wasn't sweating, and was able to walk and breathe – hmmm. Suspicious to say the least. Well, 15 cents worth of gas wouldn't get us out of the station, so I asked the store owner, "How's my credit? I need about five bucks worth of gas if you can't cash a check." The owner looked at the check and said, "Nope! It's a two-party!" "You would cash it – if it wasn't a two-party?" I asked. "Hell yes," he answered. "So, how's my credit," I said. "I usually don't give credit," he said, pointing to a "No credit – Cash only" sign in English and Spanish. "But I've seen your truck pass here quite often. You're the one with the fence on the sides, aren't you?" I stupidly looked over to see that we were. The oxygen was just starting to get back to my brain. He laughed and said OK. "I'll make an exception to my rule," he said. "Just remember I'm here the next time you come out this way. Five dollars it is. No need to sign the ticket. I trust you." He must have been the good Sa- maritan reincarnated, or something. We gassed up and made it back to Wauchula. I went to the local grocery store and explained the check business to the store owner. He stamped it with his I.D. and said, "Take it to the bank. Tell 'em you want cash for it." I did. The bank handed me the loot – didn't even bat an eye. I depos- ited the money in my account and the bank officer said, "See, that was easy, wasn't it?" I resisted the sudden urge to stran- gle him, but felt it wasn't worth it for a mere $30,000. Now for $50,000, I might commit mayhem! Well, not really. It was just a passing fancy! Needless to say, the next time someone wants to give me a large check, they're going to have to go to the bank and get cash instead. I still don't know what ain't a two-party check. Do any of you guys? AHHHHH!! Encon makes plans for 15th annual golf tournament On Friday, Sept., 18, Encon Electronics will host its 15th annual golf tournament at the Sunol Valley Golf Club in Sunol, Calif., just east of Fre- mont. The tournament hosts a combination of installing dealers, company employees, and leading manufacturers who all join together for a best ball tournament and a day of fun. Vendors sponsor the tournament and donate amazing raffle prizes. At- tendees have a chance to win prizes by conquering contests staged through- out the course. This year the tournament will revolve around an "intergalactic Star Wars theme," the company said. Dealers will have to "use the force" to conquer "Jabba the Putt," "Phantom Menace," and the "Closest to the Light Saber" contests. The Encon tournament is designed for vendors to meet installing dealers one-on-one and for dealers to meet manufacturer representatives, learn about new product lines and expand their industry relationships, according to En- con VP of operations and sales, Jeff Harris. "The Encon tournament is not a traditional golf tournament. We inten- tionally design the format so it's more of a social rather than competitive event," said Harris. "The interaction between the customers and vendors makes for a fun, relaxing way to meet each other and talk shop in a neutral environment. Everyone leaves with much more than a scorecard at the end of the day." All Encon dealers and vendors may attend. Anyone interested in partici- pating in the Encon golf tournament should visit www.enconelectronics.com for registration details or call 800-782-5598. After 25 years of providing Ornamental CAD services and software to great metal fabricators, For years I've debated buying FabCAD and finally purchased it a few months ago. I created the railing drawing on top of the treads in CAD and used that to build the railing frames in the shop. We took them to the job site today to test fit. Perfect. I know a lot of you take this for granted, but for a guy like me, this was AWESOME. For anyone debating the purchase, today was cool! – MICHAEL MIGALA, MIGALA METAL DESIGNS, LLC, HARVARD, IL They said "get it". I "got it". Don't know what I would do without it. From using it for railings to general layout on job shop work to drawing parts for my CNC. It really is the one tool I use everyday. Best part is you have access to several pros that use it in our line of work every day. Not to mention Dave has picked up the phone every time I have called him. So "get it!" "Got it!"
