The Milwaukee County Zoo, with its park setting of 200 wooded acres, is the place to visit over 2,000 mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles. Specialized habitats help visitors see animals in an active way that makes learning about them fun. For the best experience, download the Milwaukee County Zoo official phone app. The app helps in making the best use of time and navigating the grounds. It's available at the Google Play store and on iTunes. Special events at the zoo this month include two Halloween-inspired weekends, as well as a Family Free Day on Oct. 10 and Wolf Awareness Day on Oct. 17. Boo at the Zoo Oct. 16-17, Boo at the Zoo, sponsored by Sendik's Food Markets, fills the pumpkin patch with hand-carved, glowing pumpkins. Visitors can ride the "Raven's Rail" train. Many scary, but family-friendly activities, will add to the fun from 6-9pm Friday and Saturday. The Halloween Spooktacular Oct. 23-24, also is sponsored by Sendik's Food Markets. Children are welcomed to trick-or- treat through the zoo and march in the Halloween costume parade. Kids of all ages will thrill to the sight of animals enjoying treat-filled pumpkins. Join in the fun from 6-9pm. Friday and 9am-9pm Saturday. Through Oct. 31, visit the zoo from 9am-4:30pm. Entrance gates close 45 minutes prior to zoo closing time.
