Black Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica)
Past SMA Tree of the Year
Midsized tree, 30–50 feet (9-15 m) tall and 25–35 feet
(8-11 m) wide, pyramidal when young. Glossy leaves.
Small, attractive purple fruit and beautiful red/orange
fall leaf color.
Cucumber Magnolia (Magnolia acuminata)
A large tree, 50–80 feet (15-24 m) tall with a similar
spread. Interesting yellow flowers. It has thrived here.
