The cover is a giveaway that oak is the traditional symbol of an 80th an- niversary, which is doubly appropriate because of the resurgence of brown spirits, many of which are aged in oak. I've only lived through three of the eight decades since Beverage Dynamics launched, but in my opinion now is the best time to be part of the beverage alcohol industry. The pace of change and innovation is ratcheting up, especially as large conglomerates buy up smaller competitors, leading to more craft brands taking their place. Consumers have never had more choices about which brands to buy, or where to buy them. We're still on the cusp of direct shipping, out-of-state sales and online purchasing - all of which will greatly impact the future of the industry. But over eighty years, beverage alcohol has survived through world wars, natural disasters, legal changes and technological advances (see 80th Anniversary feature, page 26). I'm confi dent it will remain strong for the next eighty years, and beyond. As for this publication, it takes teamwork and perseverance to stay in business for eight decades, through political, cultural and economic changes. There are countless ownership groups, publishers, editors, artists, writers, sales managers and support staff who have contributed to this magazine in its many forms over the years. They all deserve credit for its long history, strong reputa- tion and continued success. While this issue's focus is celebrating a milestone, it's also packed with seasonal information. From brandy and Cognac (see page 42) to winter beers (see page 58) to holiday merchandising (see page 49), you'll fi nd information on all the trends and new products that will help strengthen sales this holiday season. And don't forget to check out the Advertising and Promotion Awards (see page 61), which have celebrated the best branding and marketing for more than 30 years. I'd like to thank all my predecessors for their contributions to Beverage Dynamics, and, most of all, thank the readers, whose hard work and dedication to the industry serve as an inspiration for everything we do. Here's to the next 80 years! Jeremy Nedelka Editor year anniversary 19 3 5 - 2 015 1935 - 2015
