StateWays ■ www.stateways.com ■ November/December 2015 6 F Y I Virginia ABC's Project Sticker Shock In its continuing efforts to prevent underage drinking, the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Con- trol (ABC) has retooled its community awareness program, Project Sticker Shock. In addition to a new look for the pro- gram's messaging, Project Sticker Shock participants will be able to take advantage of online training, event regis- tration and post-event evaluation. The online capabilities were designed to increase com- munities' capacities to participate in this program, the department said, with easily accessed materials and informa- tion. The enhanced digital presence also allows the agency to reach all areas of the commonwealth, creating a larger impact for the 13-year-old Project Sticker Shock program. This program represents a partnership among youth, retail establishments, concerned parents, community members, prevention professionals and law enforcement, the department said. Any organization, coalition, club or group can participate. NHLC Bans Powdered Alcohol The New Hampshire Liquor Commission is joining more than two dozen other states in banning powered al- cohol, and is preventing the product from being shipped into the state. According to the NHLC, Palcohol could encourage over-consumption and cause health issues. The product is also easy to conceal. "The New Hampshire Liquor Commission is committed to en- suring the safety of all New Hampshire residents and we believe the potentially signifi cant public health con- cerns of powdered alcohol out- weigh any benefi t. That is why we have taken proactive steps to ban this product," said NHLC Chair- man Joseph W. Mollica. "NHLC is committed to ensur- ing the products we offer are safe, and powdered alcohol carries several risk factors, including the strong possibil- ity of underage consumption of alcohol." That is why we have taken proactive steps to Heaven Hill Acquires Deep Eddy Vodka The nation's largest family-owned and operated distilled spirits supplier, Heaven Hill, recently entered into an agreement to acquire the fast-growing vodka brand, and its distillery, from Eliza Spring, LLC. The purchase price was not disclosed. Since its introduction in 2010 with the original Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka and Deep Eddy Straight Vodka in 2011, the business has grown to over 500,000 cases today. "This is a milestone day for Heaven Hill Brands, as we add Deep Eddy Vodka and their entire team to our dynamic and innovative family," said Max L. Shapira, President of Heaven Hill Brands. "Deep Eddy Vodka is a star on the rise in the spirits industry and is redefi ning the premium Vodka market with a quality product and iconic marketing programs." Eric Dopkins will continue as President of Deep Eddy Vodka. Diageo Sells Wine Interests to Treasury Treasury Estate Wines bought Chateau and Estate Wines, along with Percy Fox, for $552 million. This follows Diageo's stated goal of moving away from non- core businesses. Following the transaction, Diageo's wine portfolio will include a number of smaller interests. Ivan Menezes, Chief Executive of Diageo, said, "Diageo's strategy is to drive stronger, sustained performance through focus on our core portfo- lio and today's announce- ment is another element of that strategy in action. Wine is no longer core to Diageo and this sale gives us greater focus."
