Situated in a former military base—consisting of 34 buildings on 340 acres—Chinati houses a collection of permanently installed, large-scale works by 12 artists. Since 1987, the museum has offered its collection for free viewing, and hosted special exhibitions, talks, musical performances and more over this long October weekend. The artist-in-residence program welcomes artists throughout the year to live at Chinati and work in one of a handful of studio buildings around town.
