STATE BY STATE N E W S 10 DECEMBER 2015 | FUEL OIL NEWS | www.fueloilnews.com Oil Heat Cares (a lot) Oil Heat Cares has done good work in recent months for home- owners in Connecticut; Maryland; Long Island, N.Y.; and New Jersey, just to name a few. Instead of trick or treating on Saturday, October 31— Halloween—members of the New Haven and Fairfield County Chapters got together to help a homeowner in Bristol, Conn. Thanks go to Howard Dyson of Dyson Associates, a manufac- turers' representative based in New Britain, Conn., and ECR International, Utica, N.Y., for the donation of a Utica TriFire and H20-40 indirect water heater. "Big round of applause for the guys that worked to help a neighbor in need," said Al Breda, service manager for Sippin Energy Products, Monroe, Conn. The inaugural Oil Heat Cares and Heating for Humanity Maryland Car and Motorcycle Show in Finksburg, Md., on Sept. 26, 2015, featured 51 vehicles and raised a total of $3,384.29, said Ralph Adams, service manager for Parker Fuel Co. in Ellicott City, Md. The Mid Atlantic Chapter of Oil and Energy Service Professionals helped sponsor the event. A check has been written for $1,692.14 to Oil Heat Cares and another check for $1,692.14 was written for Heating for Humanity Maryland, said Adams. Jason Parker, president of Parker Fuel Company, presented Rich Sanford with the Best of Show award for his 1965 Chevy Corvair. The Sponsor's Choice award was chosen by Mike Hodge from Frederick branch of Griffith Energy. The winner was a 2014 Chevy Camaro. The car show was a way for Oil Heat Cares to do something a little different and raise money at the same time, said Adams, a long-time volunteer with OHC who estimated that he has partici- pated in about a dozen projects over the years. "We did one last year for a family in Crownsville, Md., that had no heat," Adams said. "We installed a boiler for them." The family—parents and two children—had been living without central heating, using space heaters, for a year. A company called Adams Temperature Control, based in Glen Burnie, Md., learned of the family's plight and alerted Ralph Adams. "I went out took a look at it, and we found out exactly what was needed," Adams said. He contacted Dave Bessette of MacFarlane Energy in Dedham, Mass., and provided the specs of the needed equipment; Bessette sent details to the OHC board, which authorized the project. "We all went out on a Saturday and had them up and running with heat by the end of day," Ralph Adams said. Total value of the project was $6,000, Adams said. And yes, there is a connection between Ralph Adams and Adams Temperature Control. Ralph's brother, Tim, is the owner of Adams Temperature Control. "He's the one actually brought the job to me," Ralph said. Geraldine Melisse of Union, N.J., was the beneficiary of new equipment installed by Woolley Fuel of Maplewood, N.J. Woolley technicians Ed Postol, Todd Williams, Joe Fealey and Chris Juliano, and service manager Kevin Ball did the job.
