26 • DECEMBER 2015 • WORLD FENCE NEWS December 1985 Here are some articles and items that were being covered in the De- cember 1985 issue of World Fence News, 30 years ago this month. • In an emergency, fencer and hu- morist Jim Hart mixed his concrete with beer instead of water, with amus- ing results. He also addressed the age- old question of why some men like the mountains, some like the plains, but he seemed to prefer the ocean. • World Fence News interviewed the keynote speaker for the 24th an- nual IFIA convention and trade show which was held February 12-15, 1986, on his speech, his business and his family. The keynote speaker was Paul Phibbs, an association manager and business consultant. • WFN contributing editor Herb Borner looked at some ways to over- come tricky installation problems and stressed the importance of proper concrete capping to prevent premature post failure. Included in his column were detailed specs for designing and building your own special capping tool. December 1990 Here are some articles and items that were being covered in the De- cember 1990 issue of World Fence News, 25 years ago this month. • The cover photo showed Bill Korte, a foreman for Steelock, Inc. of Denver, Colo., using a chain link dis- pensing machine to pay out part of the 24,000 lineal feet of 10-ft. high chain link installed as debris fence at the Denver Grand Prix. • World Fence News, as it usually does in the December issues, present- ed an in-depth preview of the upcom- ing FenceTech show. FenceTech'91 was held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, and was the 29th Through the Years with World Fence News December 1985 cover annual convention and trade exhibit of the International Fence Industry Association (now the American Fence Association). • Herb Borner drew on his four decades in the fence business for some practical and helpful tips on schedul- ing and inventorying. • The Fence Truck of the Year for 1990 was named, and it belonged to Vinny Bellissimo of Salem Fence Co. in Shrub Oak, N.Y. The panel of judg- es chose Vinny's 1989 Ford F-Super Duty because of its well-thought-out design, amenities for the crew such as AC and stereo, and its attention-get- ting paint scheme. The runner-up was a 1990 Ford F-600 belonging to Ar- row Fence Co. of Ft. Wayne, Ind. • The owners and crews of Securi- ty Fence Co., Inc. of New Castle, Del. were working with a support group of the 101st Airborne Div. out of Fort Campbell, Ky. to collect items to be shipped as "care packages" to U.S. troops in the Middle East.
