Military display highlights 2012 Armed Forces Week MILWAUKEE'S ARMED FORCES WEEK, celebrated this year from May 11-19, again includes a popular military display at the headquarters of the 128th Air Refueling Wing at General Mitchell International Airport. The military display Saturday, May 12, and Sunday, May 13, always attracts families from throughout the area, giving youngsters and veterans the chance for an up-close view of the latest in modern aircraft and weaponry. Among aircraft on display this year will be the F-22, the most equipped fighter aircraft, and the C-5 Galaxy, the largest airlifter in the Air Force. Because no parking is available at the site of the mili- tary display, free parking and a shuttle will be provid- ed from the Milwaukee Area Technical College South Campus, 6665 South Howell Ave. in nearby Oak Creek. The display will be open from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. each day, with the last shuttle to the display leaving at 3 p.m. Milwaukee Armed Forces Week is a joint effort of the Milwaukee Armed Services Committee, composed of members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, as well as Milwaukee area citi- zens. The program's mission is to increase public understanding of the role of the military in a demo- cratic society, as well as to honor and acknowledge the members of the U.S. armed forces. Other events are planned throughout the week, including the annual Support the Troops Motorcycle Ride and Ceremony May 19. Staging for the ride begins at Hal's Harley-Davidson, 1925 S. Moorland Rd., at 9 a.m. May 19, with the ride beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at the Harley-Davidson Museum at noon. The ceremony will be held at the museum.
