With the more hospi- table weather of spring now here, you might consider venturing to the east side location of Tandem Press, one of Madison's jewels and an internationally recognized institution for both printmak- ing and education. Tandem was created 25 years ago as an "artistic laboratory" where world-class printmakers come to create works while sharing their knowledge and experience with students and the general public. mean calendar art or what you might find online under "decorator art." It is, in- stead, like entering an "artist guild" that existed in early modern Europe, where artists and printers work in collaboration to create limited edition fine art prints (sometimes even single monoprints). These images are printed by hand, and range in price from $500 to over $15,000, fully signed and documented. Tandem heartily welcomes visitors At Tandem, the word "print" doesn't during its regular hours; you can even ar- range for a tour. If you're lucky, you may witness prints being created, and might get a chance to meet Tandem's director, Paula Panczenko, an enthusiastic woman with a lovely Irish lilt. She not only keeps the place in top order, but is a serious advocate for the art form and for Tan- dem's community outreach. Through its friendly website and community events (including the annual Wine Auction coming up June 21), the opportunity to support beautiful art is found right in our own backyard.
