Though he has been shooting portraits for Vanity Fair since the 1980s, Jonathan Becker has remained a relatively unsung hero of photography. However, a new museum retrospective, "A Fashionable Mind: Photographs by Jonathan Becker," brings this lensman's powerful body of work into sharp focus. Curated by fashion legend André Leon Talley, the exhibition at SCAD FASH, the fashion and film museum on the Atlanta campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design, reveals the timeless nature of his imagery. "How my work appears to viewers in another time is equally or more important to me than how it appears to someone right now," says Becker. The college's founder and president, Paula Wallace, agrees: "Jonathan was, is and always will be in demand. His work evokes the emotional truths that transcend time." 98 CULTURED © BY JONATHAN BECKER, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED TIME TRAVELER Brassaï at home, Èze, France, May 1982, photographed by Jonathan Becker A new retrospective reveals the eternal essence of Jonathan Becker's photography.
