"CHANGE" WILL BE THE
NAME OF THE GAME WHEN
THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS
OPEN THEIR HOME SEASON
APRIL 4 AGAINST THE SAN
FRANCISCO GIANTS AT
MILLER PARK.
Last fall, after a second disappointing sea-
son, the Brewers hired 30-year-old David
Stearns as general manager to rebuild the
team. Stearns is the youngest GM in base-
ball, but he is a veteran of rebuilding efforts
in both Cleveland and Houston.
Stearns rapidly expanded the transforma-
tion of the team begun by former GM Doug
Melvin. Although pundits don't expect
immediate results, they've been impressed
by several positives:
A host of off-season trades added so
many solid prospects that rating services
elevated the critical Brewers' farm system
from one of the worst to one of the best.
