REG also announced upgrades to the plant. REG leaders were joined by state and local business, govern- ment and community leaders in recognizing the transition to REG's ownership of the 20-million gallon per year nameplate capacity biodiesel refinery formerly owned by Sanimax Energy. "We are dedicated to producing cleaner, lower carbon intensity products and this celebration is another example of our commitment to environmental stewardship and energy security," said REG President and CEO Daniel Oh. "We are proud to be in the DeForest community and look forward to growing here." The event also served as a groundbreaking for approximately $7 million of additional investment into the biorefinery. The upgrades include process improvements, a dedicated entrance for the plant, additional biodiesel storage, and locker rooms. "These upgrades will allow the plant to run more efficiently and optimize our production and logistics capabilities," said Brad Albin, vice president, manufacturing. ATEK ACCESS TECHNOLOGIES ADDS FIRST CANADIAN DISTRIBUTOR: TITAN LOGIX ATEK Access Technologies said it entered into its first Canadian partnership with Titan Logix Corp. to meet the growing demand for its TankScan monitoring products. Titan Logix will be responsible for selling ATEK Access Technologies' TankScan products into new and existing accounts, and identifying new applications for those products. "The exclusive Canadian Value Added Reseller agreement for the TankScan tank monitoring solution is an important addi- tion to Titan's family of level measurement technologies," said Greg McGillis, Titan's president and chief technology officer. "The TankScan product suite provides our customers with a low cost, cloud-connected solution that eliminates the need for manual dipping of tanks, and facilitates tanker delivery route optimization, saving time, fuel and money. It is an innovative product that enables Titan to more fully deliver on its mission to provide advanced technology fluid management solutions in the field, on the road and in the office." Founded in 1979, Titan Logix Corp. is a high-technology company specializing in research and development, manufactur- ing and marketing of advanced technology fluid management solutions. The TankScan TSM8000 and TankScan TSU Ultrasonic liq- uid tank monitors provide the tools to accurately monitor fluid levels in multiple tanks, across numerous sites, from anywhere an Internet connection is available. The TankScan monitors are designed for petroleum product distributors and others manag- ing liquid assets. They optimize the distribution and collection processes while decreasing the need for manual inspections at remote tank sites. TankScan monitors also ensure trucks are deployed efficiently, eliminating costly run outs or overflows. Principal contributor: Slade Johnson EIA: STRONG EL NIÑO HELPS REDUCE U.S. WINTER HEATING DEMAND AND FUEL PRICES Above-normal temperatures during the 2015-16 win- ter were a key factor in lowering heating demand and winter fuel expenditures. Compared with the 2014-15 winter, propane and heating oil demand decreased by 16% and 45%, respectively, and residential electricity demand decreased by 6%. The 2015-16 winter season (October through March) was 15% warmer than last winter, driven in part by one of the strongest El Niño events in decades. FUELS EIA NE WS
