culturedmag.com 81 2 3 The 26-acre Cass Sculpture Foundation park outside London reigns supreme when it comes to commissioning cutting-edge contemporary sculpture and installation art. Consider this: For more than two decades, Cass has commissioned some 400 works and helped launch the careers of Tony Cragg, Rachel Whiteread and Thomas Heatherwick. Come July, they will be staging "A Beautiful Disorder," featuring the monumental work of 16 Chinese artists. SCULPTURE.ORG.UK Though he's renowned for his work in California, David Hockney remains utterly British, a fact that will be celebrated in February when London's Tate Modern mounts the world's most extensive retrospective of the artist's career, stretching back to his earliest works in the 1960s and continuing through his iconic pop masterpieces and "joiner" photo assemblages to recent pieces displayed at the Royal Academy. Meanwhile, a new show opening in July at the RA—"82 Portraits and 1 Still Life"—includes images of John Baldessari, Larry Gagosian and other luminaries.
