90 culturedmag.com Filmmaker Mathew Placek debuted his first 3-D installation, 130919: A Portrait of Marina Abramovic, at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2013. The immersive film portrayed the performance artist as she'd never been seen before. The piece has now been adapted for a short June run at the Second Ward Foundation, an alternative artspace in New York's Hudson Valley. "The environments utilized in my portraits, moving or still, are as important as the subject," Placek explains. "In the case of Marina's portrait, she is represented in a derelict theater that will become the home of her institute for performance research. The space is a symbol of her future, her legacy." SECONDWARD.COM Two decades in the making, Robert Rauschenberg's rarely seen opus The 1/4 Mile or 2 Furlong Piece (1981-98) serves as a highlight reel for one of the most extraordinary and varied artists of the 20th century. The so-called "self-contained retrospective" references past series, including Combines, Cardboards and Gluts, "and it's bloody big," says Susan Davidson, who with co-curator David White is showing all 1,000 feet of it at Beijing's Ullens Center for Contemporary Art through August 21—the very first time it's been shown as a whole. UCCA.ORG.CN London has a bustling nightlife; the streets are littered with it, in the truest sense of the word. For the past three years, Christian Marclay has been documenting the refuse from last night's debauchery, snapping thousands of photos of bottle caps, cigarette butts and clandestine drug paraphernalia. He's compiled the evidence into six compelling animations that will be shown in the South of France (following their April debut at San Francisco's Fraenkel Gallery) at behemoth photography festival Rencontres d'Arles, July 4 through September 25.
