Decouflé, a French subsidiary of Hauni, offers integrated solutions which are tailored precisely to the product that the customer wishes to manufacture. The Nano family has been joined by a new member: Nano-C from Decouflé. In combination with other components, it is the ideal solution for reliable suppliers to the cigarillo industry. Unlike cigars, cigarillos are made by machine and can have a filter. Like cigarettes, they can be made with cut tobacco but also using threshed tobacco. Cigarillos generally have a diameter of around 12mm and are rarely longer than 10-12 cm. Initially, they are wrapped by machine using recon paper. At one time, all cigarillos looked fairly similar but today the diversity of forms is much greater – even in comparison to cigarettes. The head can be bare, fitted with a filter, a plastic tip, or shaped. The rod is always single wrapped but can also be wrapped in a spiral shape with recon paper or natural leaf. The head of the cigarillo can be left "raw", wrapped in tipping paper or adorned with a banderole. Cigarillos can also be perforated using a laser. A variety of plants are required to manufacture these many variants. "Once we know which product our customer wants to produce, we can configure the line accordingly," explains Siegmar Weiss, cigarillo expert at Decouflé. The new Nano-C cigarillo maker now provides the perfect starting point. It builds on the technology platform used by the Nano range, which was launched in 2009. Outstanding features include modern electronics, a highly efficient ceramic heating plate for the bonding process, reliable regulation of tobacco weight, and a highly advanced cutting head in the cutting unit. "For the customer, this translates into high quality, speed and reliability, shorter conversion and mainte- nance times, and cost efficient production," adds Weiss. The Nano-C cigarillo maker can do all this – and much more besides. The specialists at Decouflé have refined it specifically for cigarillo production. The machine is ideal for handling cut tobacco, threshed tobacco, a variety of formats, and special papers. The rod unit, which can be coupled to a Variomat head shaper, produces double-layer rods and can therefore manufacture all standard cigarillo formats up to a length of 210 mm and a diameter of 12 mm. "We can also adapt the maker for even longer products on request," says Weiss. The hopper has been specially designed for cigarillo production and an extra-long ceramic seam sealer ensures that the tobacco is handled gently, efficiently and reliably. Nano- C has already proven its quality in real-world applica- tions at several customer facilities. www.decoufle.hauni.com IT SECURITY - Best in Class Today's machines are closely integrated with company IT security. As a result, additional security features are now essential to protect equipment against unauthorized access and cyber attacks. Hauni has responded with the new IT security package. Modern production machines are almost always controlled by a PC and integrated into the company network. Indeed, they often have a remote connection to the manufac- turer via the Internet. Although this contrib- utes enormously to boosting production performance, it can also be a gateway for dangers such as viruses, loss of data, and industrial espionage. Due to these concerns, a group of global tobacco companies founded a working group with the objective to define and establish a set of "best practice" IT security rules for their OEMs. A team led by Andreas Eckroth, group leader at the Hauni Innovation Center for Automation Technology, has now used these IT security package now available. findings as the basis for a comprehensive, modular solution that ensures the highest level of security. "As well as hardware, such as a firewall, the modules include system hardening measures that offer increased security and guarantee that all software used must be security-tested and essential for operations," explains Eckroth. "Whitelisting is another important feature. This makes certain that only known applications are allowed to run on the computer. All the required software updates are performed securely via the password-protected Hauni Update Service." Hauni's experts have even implemented the disaster recovery solution requested by a customer. This ensures that, if the worst happens, all the intelligent components in a machine can be restored quickly and easily using data from the last backup. The IT security package is already available for all Hauni machines since the beginning of 2016. It has already been in operation with a PROTOS-M5 since mid-2015 – with great success. The customer rates the Hauni solution as a "best in class" and singles out its "high level of user-friendliness" for special praise. The package has been prepared according to customer specification with OEE made by Hauni high-quality results. (www.hauni.com) Nano-C
