We asked Daniel what the biggest challenge has been so far this year, and were told that getting products on time, particularly woodgrain vinyl and aluminum in different colors, was an issue. We asked what the biggest sur- prise has been so far this season, and Daniel said that discoloration issues in woodgrain vinyl has been a surprise, as well as difficulties in keeping chain link in stock. We asked if there were any lo- cal building ordinances pertaining to fencing that they have had to adhere to. Daniel told us there was nothing really new, however, the housing au- thority has to approve products before installation. They have to make sure the prod- uct is approved by HOAs, and it gener- ally takes two to four weeks to obtain. Daniel shared with us that the company was established in 1988 by Wayne Norman, and sells and installs chain link, wood, vinyl, and alumi- num fence, and performs fence repair. We asked what the economy was like in the area, and were told that it's okay. On the residential side, new single family homes are under construction, while commercial activity is basically very slow with not much to report. When we asked what strategy was being implemented for 2016, we were told it is "steady as she goes." Finally for this issue we spoke with Tom Lemma Sr. and Delia Scarpa of All Quality Fence in Ledgewood, New Jersey. Tom told us that, at the time we spoke, the season was progressing "the best in recall- able memory." The business mix is 85% residen- tial and 15% commercial, generated over a 30-50 mile radius. At the time we spoke, the company was 4-5 weeks out. On the residential side we were told that aluminum and vinyl were the two biggest movers, followed by wood and chain link. On the commercial side, chain link is the go-to product. We asked what the biggest chal- lenge has been so far this year, and were told that finding qualified help has to be at the top of the list. We then asked what the biggest surprise was so far this year, and Tom responded that he is having some trou- ble maintaining inventory due to slow vendor shipments. We asked if the company chose to give a shout-out to any notable crew members or supervisors by name. Tom shared with us that he would like to recognize installers Lou Lem- ma and Adam Diguisseppi, salespeo- ple Chris Strunk, Wes Strunk, Tom Lemma and Chris Lemma, and assis- tant Delia Scarpa. At this point, Tom was called away and Delia agreed to continue with the interview. We asked her if there were any local ordinances pertaining to fencing that they had to adhere to. She said that each municipality has its own ordinances, and therefore it varies from town to town. Also, it is critical that permits are obtained prior to installation. Delia noted that in addition to the Ledgewood location, they also have another location in Kenville, N.J. In addition to the aforementioned fence offerings, the company also deals in post and rail fences, fence repairs, sheds, lawn furniture, garden supplies, and children's swings. When asked about the economy in the area, Delia told us that it was not bad at all. Single family housing, condos, and townhouse complexes are being built, while on the commercial side, there appears to be nothing significant happening; ditto infrastructure. We asked what the company strategy is for 2016. We were told that the company is doing advertising on Angie's List as well as on restaurant menus.
