56 • august 2016 • world fence news Century Fence Company of Pe- waukee, Wisconsin marked its 100th year of corporate existence on June 20, 2016, truly making it a "century" fence company. Henry Bryant, the founder, in- corporated the company in 1917 upon his entry into the U.S. Army and his deployment to France during the First World War. One of Mr. Bryant's quotes sums up his business philosophy: "If you can build a fence, win a lawsuit, play a clarinet or what not, better than your neighbor, and above all, win the con- fidence and respect of your customer, success is sure to follow." The firm is a major contractor of fencing and highway marking systems operating in seven states in the North- central United States. It was previously known as Hen- ry Bryant & Company and Waukesha Steel Products Company before its fi- nal name change to Century Fence in 1925. It operates a branch office in For- est Lake, Minnesota, and owns a sub- sidiary company, Fortress Fence, lo- cated in Green Bay, Wisconsin. A manufacturing facility for high- way striping equipment is maintained in western Wisconsin in the Village of Knapp. For more information on the com- pany and its history, visit the web site www.centuryfence.com. (Century Fence Company photos) Returning from her vacation, the young secretary was telling anyone who would listen about what a fun time she had. She then asked for two weeks leave to get married. "But you just had two weeks off," said the boss. "Why didn't you get married then?" "What? And ruin my vacation?" she whined. • • • A lumberjack new to the job had trouble meeting his quota. He worked as hard as he could, but still he could only chop down two or three trees in a day. His supervisor noticed this, and asked what was wrong. Maybe his chainsaw was broken. The supervisor turned it on, but it was working fine. The lumberjack looked incredi- bly startled and asked, "What's that noise?" Our aluminum fence is ready to ship in 5 days!
