WORLD FENCE NEWS • JULY 2012 • 71 California Chapter AFA combines business and pleasure at 1st quarterly meeting of the year The California Chapter of the American Fence Association held its 1st quarterly meeting at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Spa in La Quinta, California on March 16–17, 2012. The chapter golf tournament was played at The Golf Club at La Quinta. The chapter reported a good turn- out for the Friday tournament, with 17 golfers signed up. Some $150 was raised for the Special Olympics by the sale of mulligans. Hole sponsors who provided prize money for the tounament were: Builders Fence, ci Fabrics, Master Halco, Merchants Metals, Valley In- surance, Swan Fence and Amerisar Fence Products. The chapter also thanked member JT Lawson of ci Fabrics for his work in organizing the golf tournament. The board of directors meeting was held on Friday afternoon, March 16, with the general meeting being held on Saturday morning. During the second portion of the meeting, an interesting and informa- tive seminar was presented by Shirley Curry de Caraveo on "Discovering Some of the Secrets of Those That Profit During a Recession." Saturday evening was reserved for social activities, and as it was St. Patrick's Day, chapter members en- joyed Irish music from the Richard Bernard Irish Trio from Los Angeles. One highlight of the meeting was a presentation to Tracy Jakositz of an award from the International Associa- tion of People Scared to Death of Heights (IAPSDH), which commem- orated her willingness to daringly go "Over the Edge" and rappel down a Pat Dowling and Janet Mastin get in the spirit of St. Patrick' s Day.
