42 SportsTurf | September 2016 www.sportsturfonline.com FIELD OF THE YEAR JEFFCO STADIUM Jefferson County Public Schools LAKEWOOD, COLORADO I believe that we are in a unique situation in the largest school district in the state of Colorado. Across the nation, it seems like most districts are going toward synthetic fi eld due to the overuse and the not so appealing aesthetics in the late months of the season. Within Jefferson County we are staying "old school" with the original construction of the stadium built in 1959. Jefferson County Stadium is home to 18 high schools giving a new meaning to "Thursday Night Lights" and "Friday Night Lights." Being the only district, grass fi eld in the state of Colorado we basically regrow from seed every year, hosting 35 football games and nearing 40 track meets. It sits in the middle of the metro area and is centralized for many rental and community events, making recovery time Why STMA should consider your field a winner? diffi cult. With our time restraints and heavy schedule, it is imperative to provide a strong and safe environment to our players and community by using creativity and knowledge from STMA. Being part of a school district many challenges come into effect. With limited budgets, we have become very effi cient with water, fertilization, and emission use. Our goal going into every season, either spring track or fall football is to be as strong and safe as possible, within our resources. So within the last year the development of the football has been second to none and the strongest in its 56-year history. In conclusion, Jefferson County Stadium continues to be the model of a premier facility in the state of Colorado.
