Find efficient pathways and link calls in groups whenever possible, but always remem- ber to be exactly on time. Not close! Fifteen or 20 minutes will not matter, right? Wrong! To the potential cus- tomer, it means a great deal. It will tell them that your time is more valuable than theirs; that you are more import- ant than they are. It's a very bad way to begin a sales pitch. • Another suggestion is to meet weekly and talk to each other, help each other and cut down mistakes made in bidding and on drive time whenever possible. • Limit time on the cell phone to company business only. • No web surfing for personal business on the computer. Use your time productively, for company busi- ness only! • Develop cold call ideas. If there are no cold call initiatives in the com- pany, you be the first to start. Begin to use door knockers, call on develop- ers and/or GCs you may see or meet in the field. Talk up the company in social circles. Network, network, net- work! I think by now that you get the picture – we can all pitch in as a team and make things better. The only way to do this, however, is if it is high pro- file, understood and welcomed by all, and everyone in the company agrees, buys into the concept, and then puts together a plan to reduce waste and improve performance together, as a team. Employees should feel "pride of ownership" continued from page 32 CLFMI accepting applications for the 2016 Les Grube Memorial Design Award The Chain Link Fence Manu- facturers Institute (CLFMI) reminds everyone that applications are being accepted for the 2016 Les Grube Me- morial Design Award, which is named for CLFMI past president Les Grube. The award was created to high- light the versatility and functionality of chain link fencing products. CLFMI recognizes the designing architect and installing contractor of the project that is deemed to represent the most unique and practical way of incorporating chain link fencing materials. The architect and contrac- tor each receive a specially-designed plaque and a cash award of $2,500 given to the designing architect and $1,000 to the installing contractor. The award was established in 1984 during Grube's term as CLFMI president. He was instrumental in out- lining the award's qualifications and establishing connections with the ar- chitectural community to support the concept. The nominated project must employ an innovative use of chain link fence materials (fabric, frame- work, and/or gates) on a commercial or industrial project; be conceived by a professional architectural or en- gineering firm; and be installed by a professional fence contractor.
