Explore the iconic black leather jacket at H-D Museum WORN TO BE WILD: The Black Leather Jacket, is the special summer exhibit at Milwaukee's Harley- Davidson Museum. For many people, "black leather jacket" conjures images of rebellion and rock 'n' roll. Even variations on the classic form exude a tough "don't mess with me" attitude. But where did it all begin, and how did a simple garment become so culturally charged? The exhibit, which continues through Sept. 3, traces the functional and design history of the biker jacket, along with the evolution of the garment from cloth- ing to cultural shorthand. More than 50 jackets are on display. The exhibit includes rare historical items pulled from the Harley-Davidson archives and private collections, as well as jackets worn by superstars of the stage and screen. Be on hand July 19 when curatorial director Jim Fricke hosts a lively discussion of the influence of the biker jacket and rebel biker image on popular culture. Panelists include Oscar-nominated costume designer Deborah Nadoolman Landis, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Curatorial Director Howard Kramer, and Harley-Davidson General Merchandise Creative Director Karen Davidson.
