Grundfos has named Thomas Morrison executive vice president of the com- pany's U.S. water utility business. In this role Morrison will have complete profit and loss responsibility, including sales and operations. He will report directly to Jonathan Hamp-Adams, general manager of Grundfos USA. Global water technology company Xylem Inc. signed an agreement August 15 to acquire industry technology company Sensus for nearly $1.7 billion. In 2016, Sensus, a provider of smart meters, network technology, and data analytics services, generated $837 million in adjusted rev- enue and $159 million in ad- justed earnings. About 70% of 2016 revenues were gener- ated in the United States. Bill Davidson, a veteran of the pump industry with more than 30 years of experience, has announced his retirement from Tsurumi Pump. Davidson has held numerous positions over his career, in- cluding a stint as district man- ager for ASH Pump Co. from 1969 to 1978. The role helped Davidson learn the skills that would define his career and enable him to help establish Tsurumi a contender in the mining industry. Davidson played a key role in advanc- ing the company's awareness throughout the United States and abroad, using his techni- cal expertise to engineer ap- plication solutions. Matrix Drilling Products, a family-owned, ISO 9001- 2008 certified manufacturer and design engineer of in- hole drilling tools for the water resource industry, is celebrating its 40th anniver- sary. Founded in 1976 by Bob Peters and grown under Bob's son, Kent, Matrix Drilling Products operates out of two locations in Lewisburg, Tennessee, and Rexburg, Idaho. The com- pany specifically manufac- tures reverse circulation drilling tools, rotary drill pipe, and sonic drilling tools utilizing a unique technology —plasma arc welding, which is primarily used in the aero- space industry because of it's incredible weld strength. Industry NEWSMAKERS PROMOTION BUSINESS GROWTH NGWA Past President Len Assante Leaves Lasting Legacy The National Ground Water Association announced 2002 NGWA President Leonard "Len" A. Assante, CWD/PI—Retired in Good Standing, passed away on August 15. He was 75. Assante was retired from Plainfield Well Drilling Co., a full-service water well contracting firm located in Martinsville, New Jersey, a town 32 miles from New York City. Assante served the groundwater industry for more than 50 years. He held leadership roles with the New Jersey Ground Water Associa- tion and Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Board of Directors. Assante was a long-time active volunteer for NGWA and the namesake of the National Ground Water Research and Educational Foundation's "Len Assante Scholarship Fund"—which awards scholarships to assist those studying in groundwater-related fields. He received the Ross L. Oliver Award in 2002, the most prestigious award given by NGWA. It is presented to a member who has made outstanding contributions to the ground- water industry. He was also named the Standard Bearer Award recipient in 2006, an award presented to an outstanding volunteer involved in the legislative process on behalf of NGWA and its initiatives. "Len showed how to be engaged and how to put people at ease," says NGWA Chief Executive Officer Kevin McCray, CAE. "He told great tales. I think most were told with a twinkle in his eye but still had some degree of reality associated with them, but they were all great to share with him. Len was passionate about his profession, his industry, and his association. An association can't ask for more than that from a volunteer." Leonard "Len" A.
