The AHR Expo began more than 85 years ago as a heating and ventilation show, and is now one of the world's larg- est HVACR events. The exposition is held each year in a major city in a key market in the U.S., hosting close to 2,000 exhibi- tors and bringing in crowds of 60,000 industry professionals. The event is co- sponsored by ASHRAE and AHRI, and is held concurrently with ASHRAE's Winter Conference. LOW-TECH TRAINING SEMINAR: OCT. 18 Entech Advanced Energy Training has created a "low-tech" seminar for recep- tionists, dispatchers and customer service representatives. The first seminar, in September, was booked full, Entech announced, so another has been added. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Entech's facility at 10 Alcap Ridge, Cromwell, Conn. The company is affiliated with the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association, which is also based in Cromwell. T h e s e m i n a r g i v e s f u e l d e a l e r s ' employees the opportunity to go into a lab and see the different types of equip- m e n t f o u n d i n c u s t o m e r s ' h o m e s , according to Entech's website. Attendees get an overview of the basic parts of the equipment to give them a better under- standing of what a customer might be looking at and trying to explain over the phone. The seminar is designed to help employees determine the nature and urgency of calls, so that technicians can be informed before arriving at custom- ers' homes. DIRECT ENERGY: 'ONE HOUR HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING' ONE OF THREE GROWING 'HOME SERVICES' Direct Energy continues to develop its network of "home services," recruiting independent companies to join. The home services brands that the com- pany is growing are One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning, Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and Mister Sparky electric. Direct Energy said in a statement that new locations are being opened and current locations expanding. Between January and August of 2016, 70 new franchise territo- ries have been added, the company said. The three brands now have more than 700 franchise territories across North America, according to the statement. "Large home services companies are joining our brands because they rec- ognize there is power in numbers. We also have our longtime franchise owners expanding and renewing their service areas," said Mark Baker, president of franchise.
