Editor's NOTE W ith the countdown to Groundwater Week 2016 at now less than one month out, I am really getting excited. Oddly one of the things I am looking forward to the most is—the crowd. While I am not a fan of the crowded department stores you get this time of year, I still remember how much fun the crowds were at the 2006 Groundwater Expo and Annual Meet- ing in Las Vegas, Nevada. That year, an Expo-record 6618 attendees descended on the Las Vegas Convention Center and there was a buzz in the air. Everywhere you turned there were groundwater professionals talking in hallways and at networking events, doing business in the jam-packed exhibit hall, learning in overflow workshops, and more. Even when you left the convention cen- ter, you couldn't help but run into atten- dees on the Las Vegas Strip. I met so many people that week who I am still in contact with today. It was a great experience I still vividly remember. The reason I am so eager about Groundwater Week this year is because the Na- tional Ground Water Association is co-locating its annual event with the Irrigation Association and its Irrigation Show. That means there will most likely be 9000 water professionals buzzing around the convention center, December 6-8. How cool is that? Groundwater Week will once again feature networking opportunities, a busy exhibit hall, workshops on important topics, and events with fun in mind. But the co-location offers some unique opportunities too. The exhibit hall of the Irrigation Show is connected to the NGWA hall, so you'll be able to visit the manu- facturers and suppliers of both without even leaving one hall and searching for the other. It will be thousands upon thousands of feet of exhibit floor space featuring the latest technology for water professionals today. You just may need all 12 hours the exhibit halls are open to get from one end to the other! The keynote address is another opportunity for attendees of both events to join together. It is titled "Water for Food Security: Solutions for the Context" and will be delivered by Peter McCornick, Ph.D., PE, D.WRE, an internationally known expert in water, food, and environmental research. McCornick, the executive director of the Daugherty Water for Food Institute at the University of Nebraska, will discuss how all water professionals can play a role in aiding the critical water-for-food challenge we face today. The keynote sounds like an important talk everyone in attendance needs to hear. I definitely hope you're one of the thousands who arrive in Las Vegas in less than one month. I'm confident of one thing. If you are, it will be an event you remember for years to come.
