Chef's Corner Osteria Papavero There's no mistaking that Osteria Papav- ero is high on style. Located downtown, the Italian eatery exudes a rustic-chic vibe. But as Chef and Co-owner Francesco Mangano explains, the goal is to not just offer a dining experience that pleases the eyes, but one that pleases the palate. "[A dish] doesn't have to look spectacu- lar as long as it tastes good," he says of restaurant's aim to serve classy but casual cuisine. From delicately prepared appetiz- ers to hearty main courses (including the Tagliolini pasta with mussels and clams pictured), Mangano keeps the menu simple while sprinkling in creative touches. With the Dane County Farmers' Mar- ket just steps away, he also keeps it fresh, shopping for local fare to incorporate into dishes. Stop in this summer and you'll be treated to specials featuring local fruits that evoke the flavors of Wisconsin, Italy and summer. Osteria Papavero is located at 128 E.
