We've been working on the manifold for the past year, and it'll fi t over the exhaust gas recirculation cooler. It will let the engine get about 1 ⁄4 mile per gallon better and reduce exhaust temperature about 125 degrees. The benefit is you can keep your EGR cooler while utilizing a Fuel-saving turbo The Big Boss Turbo from Performance Diesel Inc. was designed with fuel sav- ings and performance in mind, the com- pany says. A quick-spool exhaust hous- ing allows for better throttle response over original equipment and improves exhaust braking. PDI says the turbo can increase horsepower and torque, improve fuel mileage and produce more airflow for improved efficiency and cooler exhaust temperatures. That expensive stock turbocharger (about $3,000) will be replaced with a turbo that runs about $1,800. To use it, your ECM will have to be calibrated, so it's not something you can just bolt on in your shop. A big word of caution, though, on similar exhaust manifold products: We've heard of problems with cast iron from China, so know what you're buying.
