CNN Fit Nation Triathlon Challenge participant Glenn Keller's 2007 Freightliner Columbia is leased to Roadrunner Transportation. He bought his first truck in Oklahoma City with carrier Freymiller "the day the Federal Building was bombed" in 1995, he says. It wasn't his last brush with disaster, either: Born and raised in New Orleans, La., Keller's family evacuated in advance of Hurricane Katrina and eventually relocated to Burleson, Texas. At press time, he was contemplating a return to the Big Easy to take over pastorship of a church in the Ninth Ward. 6 | Overdrive | August 2012 Reaching the health summit We reported in March about owner-operator Glenn Keller's selec- tion to participate in the high-profile fitness program that is CNN's Fit Nation Triathlon Challenge. As of late June, Keller had shed 50 pounds en route to his goal of losing 100 pounds and along the way hit new highs in his quest to truly "take care of myself," he says. He's taking inspiration from fellow trainees, he says. During kick- off training in CNN's headquarters city of Atlanta, Keller and his six teammates were whisked away to NBA team Atlanta Hawks' facility for a mini-version of a Hawks workout. Keller was experi- encing hamstring pain when he arrived, then an exercise requiring side-to-side movement pushed the pain beyond his tolerance level. He dropped off to the side, only to see teammate Denise Castelli, whose right leg is amputated below the knee, still going strong. Keller put aside his pain and soldiered through. Similarly, he says, a hike up Stone Mountain during kickoff week proceeded slowly for him, though he made the top. He returned in May with a teammate determined to hike the rock right. By then 35 pounds lighter, Keller "was surprised how quickly I reached the summit." He and his teammates will compete in a sprint triathlon (half- mile swim, 18-mile bike, 4-mile run) Sept. 16 in Hawaii. Follow their progress via CNN.com/FitNation.
